Lai Châu is a mountainous province in Vietnam's Northwest region, bordering China as well as the provinces of Điện Biên, Lào Cai, Yên Bái, and Sơn La. With its rugged, high-mountain terrain, Lai Châu boasts a wild, majestic beauty that captures the spirit of the northern highlands.
Covering an area of about 9,000 km² and home to over 400,000 people, Lai Châu is a land of cultural diversity, inhabited by ethnic groups such as the Thái, Hmong, Dao, Hà Nhì, and Lự. The province is famed for its stunning natural landmarks like Pu Si Lung Peak – one of Vietnam's "roof-top border peaks," Ô Quy Hồ Pass – one of the country’s legendary “Four Great Passes,” the poetic Sìn Hồ Plateau, and the breathtaking terraced rice fields of Tả Lèng and Mường So.
With its high-altitude subtropical climate, Lai Châu enjoys cool weather year-round, making it ideal for eco-tourism, trekking, and nature retreats. Beyond its natural wonders, the province is also known for its vibrant traditional festivals, joyful Thái dances, and the warm hospitality of its people.
